As usual this time of year, there are tons of small yellowfin tuna in Venice. Somedays, the bigger ones are willing to bite and some days they are not. When we’re able to get out to the floaters where the yellowfins are right now, we are getting to see them skying and busting on baitfish. Unfortunately, the live bait is hard to come by right now so we are forced to use other techniques to catch them. Most of the bigger fish have come on chunks but we did have a 110lb yellowfin eat a popper 15 ft from the boat. Thats always cool. Plenty of small tuna have been caught on lures trolling around the rigs. One of the nice bonuses that we’re getting right now is tons of huge blackfin tuna on the close in rigs. On the rougher days, we’ve had plenty action chunking for trophy blackfins. The amberjack have been pretty easy with some beautiful scamp grouper mixed in.
