April 10th, we had a group of guys that wanted tuna so that what we did. We started our fishing about 40 miles offshore and immediately saw some fish busting the surface upon arrival. With no live bait in the well (not a lot of bait around right now) we decided to chunk and throw poppers. Our 2nd and 3rd baits in the water got nailed pretty quick and we had a double of nice tuna on. Before long we stuck the gaffs in 2 identical 75 lbers. The fish stayed active at this spot but they turned off of the chum so we moved on. Next stop had a little bit of topwater action and we caught a 30lber on a swim bait but these also didn’t want our chunks. Our furthest stop did not have much tuna action but it did have some live bait so we picked up about 5 before getting run off by a supply boat. On our way back to our first stop we came across some birds working over grass mats. Before long we started seeing some very nice tuna busting through. We cast a popper and a swim bait into the melee and had a double hookup, one of which I saw eat next to the boat was 150lbs. That fish ripped off 350yds of line and got us to the bottom of the spool when we broke him off. The other fish stayed on a went through 3 anglers before meeting the gaff. A nice 90 lber. With the day getting late we made one quick stop at our first spot and got one more 70 lber on a live bait to end a great day.
